Is anyone aware of a tool to separate the old butt connectors on the wiring harness? The old plastic and wiring on my '59 isn't exactly what it used to be and the connectors are all insanely tightly connected. I don't to damage them or the wires to remove if I can avoid it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I know of no tool to separate those butt connectors. Half my wires broke when I tried doing just that.
Wiring that old… you may consider replacing/rewiring if it is original especially if they are hard and brittle. Easiest thing I did was rewire the ‘57 and with color correct wiring and modern blade fuses. JMHO
Yeah those things fit tighter than the bark on a tree. I've had had some success with wrapping a fairly thick rag around the connector(s) and using two sets of pliers to pull them apart. This is on original wiring and the rag just about eliminates the damage caused by pliers. I also recommend the penetrating oil first.
