Hello all, the mighty ford keep trucking along but I have fluid randomly burping out of pinion seal.
88 f150 5.0 5 speed.
I put a new seal in rear pinion about 2 years ago. I cleaned up vent on diff and ran it up tied of into rear frame. Put a filter on end of hose.
The pinion has seeped fluid out fairly regular when parked since the change.
I guess I’ll have to replace and would like to do so soon.
Is there anything I should do differently this time ? Things to look for ?
I just pull drive shaft it should be right there ?
Any sealant this time ?
thanks for for your thoughts.
To get the pinion seal off you'll have to pull the yoke. Sealant probably won't help since it's a rotating part. One thing to look at is your yokes condition. On a part this old it could have a groove worn into it. If that's the case a new seal will still most likely leak. You would either need to look and see if they offer a seal with a different tolerance designed for a worn yoke or replace the yoke and use a normal seal.
