i have a new motor in my 88 ranger......for 6 m0nths it ran great!!....now the weathers getting colder and now when i start it cold it runs rough, and shakes a bit. but then after a few minites it gos away and runs great????? when i restart it warm it runs fine too??....any ideas???
Does it run bad/worse even when you give it some gas or will that clear it up? If it is the air bypass valve (IAC) then it should not continue to run rough/shake when you rev it up a bit. If it DOES continue to run badly even when you give it gas I would check the plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc....alot of times when a new engine is installed they will not change all that stuff...especially if it was a longblock.
i havent figured out how to get any codes yet....and it always runs fine after a few minites!!...... i will try to read the info for getting codes!! thanks!!
ok i see in the tech info.....lots of codes, and what they mean......but how do you get them?? do you need a computer??.......where do you see them at?? HELP!
ok ken....when to that post.....not sure if i have any of those codes?? maybe i forgot to mention that the new motor is also an 1988 rebuilt.....im too confused!!....thanks.............john
I understand that you have a 1988 truck and engine but you can pull codes from the computer. The connector is under the hood on the passengers side. The link I put in my last post will take you the information on pulling the codes, it is right from the 1988 Ford manual.
This is John's son. We don't have a Star Connector, nor an analog voltmeter.... the link is hard to read..... But I get the impression that I plug my voltmeter into each of the self test connectors a Tan/Red wire and a Wht/Red wire(What does Jumper STI to SIG RTN, mean?)
And will a digital volt meter accomplish this sweeping motion?
