20 mpg City After new O2 Sensor
I couldn't believe it. I put in the sensor for the hell of it since I have 180 kmi on the rig and don't know if it's ever been changed. Got it off eBay for about $30. I was getting around 15-17 city and on my first tank with the new sensor got 20. Drove 338 miles on 16.8 gallons. I just finished a half tank of highway driving. I'm wondering what the mpg will be when done.

Yes, but how is it set up?

It's not "set up". Purely bone stock. I bought it from a guy who bought it from an old guy that used it as his fishing truck. It was by no means low miles. I picked it up with about 160 kmi and a whole bunch of little things broken. Both mirrors had to be replaced, the fan clutch didn't work, the water pump went out, both front and rear brakes, and little interior things like the dash vents. There is no "set up" to it. I always track mileage and typically get about 16 city. I've only taken it on the highway a couple times and each time my overall mileage for the tank would be maybe 18. I have 5 cars and have been replacing O2 for a while so I figured what the hell, I'll put a new one on the truck. I bought all of them off eBay for about half the price Autozone wants. I just set up an eBay watch and when one goes for sale with a decent "Buy It Now" price I grab it.
Anyway, I was shocked when my mileage jumped to 20 mpg on the first tank after replacing the O2 sensor.
BTW, I accidentally bought an extra Taurus O2 sensor if anyone needs one. It's a Bosch 13117 and fits a bunch of Ford rigs. The first $30 takes it.

Long bed, dunno gear ratio but I think its geared low. It has a 5 speed manual trans and in 5th gear the rpms are high (I think.) How could I find out the gear ratio? EFI and 235/75/15 tires. I think the only things not stock are the trailer brake and fiberglass topper. It also has a/c but it doesn't work.
Dunno how much this matters but I do drive the speed limit (most of the time.)

To find out about your gear ratio, look at your pumpkin. There should be a metal tag on one of the bolts. It'll have a series of numbers. The first three numbers should be it. It'll say something like 3 55 xxxx or 3 08 xxxx If you have LS, I think it has an L or LS in there. Somebody else will know better than me; I haven't looked at my tag in a long time. I think you must be geared 308 or 355 to reach those numbers. Tire size and lack of AC helps. That's what I like about the 300; she can sip fuel if you really want her too.

[quote=6CylBill;6350007]Are you talking about your Lightning Clone? You should be getting better mileage than that with those 3.55 and street tires.
I am talking city mileage with my truck "bumper to bumper" i got 17.3 once and so far its getting mid to upper 16's. Before the hedders and high flow cats it wsa getting 14/15.
"Texas Guy" is getting 16/17 with his truck same powertrain 302 4R7OW 3.55
Eveything is up to date service wise.

That's really good for a 302. A lot of people complain about the mileage their 302 gets.
I'd like to change my O2 sensor. I figure it can't hurt. I have no idea if the thing has ever been changed. What do I have to do to change it??? And just to make sure I don't screw this up, the O2 sensor is the sensor right before my catalytic converters?

It's on the exhaust pipe somewhere near the cat but I can't remember if it's before or after. It looks like a spark plug with wires coming off of it. All you do is get down there with a big ole wrench (I used a crescent) and take it off. I've read tales of them being a hassle to remove but I've removed 6 of them and they've all come right off. For one of them on my Taurus there wasn't room to get a wrench in there so I busted the long part of the body off of the sensor and put a socket on it. I could get the wrench in there to tighten it but not loosen it. Anyway, to make a long story short, it's real easy.

94 i dont know if it has 1 or 2? it wouldint hurt to go ahead and change it!
It will help with mpg a little the o2's on the hedders monitors your Air/Fuel Ratio.
