i went to close my tailgate the other day and it wouldn't latch. took a look-see at it and there was a broken torque bolt jammed into the latch assembly bending it all up. i haven't been able to find a new one yet or any good old ones. the ones in the wrecking yards are broken or missing and nobody sells new ones. so far bungy cords work but look crappy and unsafe.

what year? i do think they revised the latch system in the late 80s and the beds swap, so jsut making sure we are on the same page. YOu mean the side of the tail gate, right? The spring and the catch that then grabs the bushing-having striker on the bed side?
I'd go pull one out of a junkyard tailgate, before I'd spend money on anything with Dorman on the package.
Not everyone has the time or ability go to a salvage yard.
I generally prefer original parts, but don't think Dorman is all that bad, and it is better than not having any new parts. Most parts trucks are junk and tailgates are the first things gone around here.

Dorman is garbage. Period. And I won't recommend them, or even suggest that they're ok, especially to people that don't know any better.
I worked in Auto Parts for way too many years, and dealt with their poor quality control, and overall "build to the lowest price point" practices that it's a hill I'm willing to die on.

ive gotten things from dorman usually help section items and they are OK. Caliper bracket bolts, OK.
Quality control? Damn straight, get a tensioner from them i feel like its about 1/5 it works or doesnt bend doing its job
Put a balancer on my buick from them. SURPRISINGLY its still ok. def would go for the ac delco but 300 dollars vs 100 in a pinch was sure painful choice
the bolt looks like it came out of the latch to bolt it to the tailgate the internals of the latch was all bent up because the previous owner tried slamming the tailgate when it wouldn't latch. so i tried to straighten it but that didn't work.

is it bent or is it pushed over? I had mulch and debris I dumped out one day stick in there and just pushed the parts away and a little bit of digging out and a small screw driver i wasable to clean it out and put it back
