Maverick door latches

Has anyone used maverick or that style door latches on a 53-56 f100.

I want to be able to open the doors from the inside using the stock door handle thats why I don't want to use any aftermarket bearclaw latch kit that I have seen. They seem to be all elect operated.

Also I would like to not have to notch the inner door panel area.

Thanks, Chuck

Maverick door latches

I have 73 comet latches on my 54 and 56. Had to modify the arm that the outside button pushes on and the pull rod. Did have locks hookedup at one time but they need more work.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

Are you using the stock outside door handles?

What benefit would the Maverick latches offer over stock?

Yes, I am using the stock outside handles and inside handles. The maverick/vomit latches are a bear claw type. In the years I have had them in my pickups i know I would have worn out or replaced several original style latches. My trucks get DRIVEN.

Great I will have to figure out the outside handle. I have been thinking about shaving the outside but who knows.

I got the driver side door about half way done today need to hookup the inside handle then study the outside handle.

I have taken some pictures but of coarse the camera dosn't want to download now.

Thanks, Chuck

I should have kept my mouth shut about stock latches. One of the comet latches broke today. No fun taking it out in 10 degree weather. Not too serious. Need to tack a piece back on and it will be as good as not so new.

Well the hard part is done now. Both latches are ready to install. I did decide to shave the outside handles so I made the outside electric and the inside manual. Also I am using door poppers to help the electric part. Just need to pretty up the pin area so it looks like it was there all along.

I would like to keep mine original. Who sells a good aftermarket original door latch and striker for a fair price. I have seen them as high as $100 a piece. Ec

Merc, I'm interested in doing the Maverick door latch swap on my '54, and it looks doable to me. But I still haven't figured out how to correctly locate the latch pin in the B pillar. Can you enlighten me?
I'm also contemplating either shaving the handles or installing a late model recessed door handle/lock assembly. Anyone have any idea on what model doner car to look for?
