Well I was doing my oil change yesterday, and upon my undercarriage inspection I found a new leak. It is between the transfer case and the transmission. It is red fluid, which sucks because the trans fluid and transfer case fluid are the same color. It looks like a new leak, in that there is clean fluid on the crossmember and no real grime build up yet. Anyways, has anyone had this issues? Without taking in apart, I'm guessing it is the trans rear seal. How hard is that seal to replace? I know I would need a couple of speciality tool.
I did check the fluid levels and they are full as of right now.
Have you taken the pan off recently? If you tighten the pan bolts down too much, they can corrupt the gasket and leak around it. There's also a fluid line going in the trans body on the passenger side rear that can leak. Fluid can also leak from up front on that side, from either the wiring harness connector or the dipstick tube. Both are above the pan rim so that the fluid can actually flow down the pan and off the back of the trans, near the cross member.
But yeah, prolly the rear seal. Dang, I was going to attach the repair procedures for you, but just found out that my buddy's password no longer works. There's always YouTube, lol.
I posted some info for a guy a few years back on doing that seal. I no longer have the photos up on FTE and will have to find them.
I had posted a photo of the tail shaft and seal tool.
This is for the 2006 5R110W I have to find the torque values so I can post that info for you.
FTE keeps choking on one of the file uploads. The info in that file is in the other assembly PGF that did upload.
These files should get you started and if you need others just ask.
One thing to do is check the level in the transfer case to be sure that it's coming from the transmission.
I included the transfer case files just in case.
