Okay so I have a red 92 ford f150. An I am going to tell how this all started. So I started the morning of by going out to my truck to start it up. When it turned over and started I got this strong gas smell. Didn't think nothing of it So later I was driving from work and everything was fine one min then the next I was trying to pull over to the side of the road because the truck died. It didn't studer or anything like that it just quit on me. So I called a couple of peoe and told them what happened and what I spelt this morning they said that the fuel filter was clogged. So I had the local AutoZone deliver me a fuel filter changed it on the side of the road. Nothing so I hauled it back to the house and started process of eliminatetion. I pulled the bed off and changed both fuel pumps. No start, then it stop getting spark so we changed the distributor and the ingintion coil. Still no spark so from there we started to look on YouTube and self diagnose the problem. And this is what we have replaced with brand new items
distributor
Ingintion coil
Ecm or computer
Ingintion control module
All the fuses in the engine compartment same with the ones in the inside the truckWe pulled of the timing chain cover and changed the gears cause they where broke. ( Yes we lined them up right)( timing is good)
changed radiator
And a new battery.
Fuel filterBoth fuel pumps
So after all that we did we now have gas and spark it just wornt start. I also should mention that this whole intier time I have not been able to pull off any codes on my obd 1 reader. On the reader it will connect but it will not read any codes. Now I did get one time a 4 and a 14. Looked those up and couldn't find the answer. So please guys help me I am so lost.
What does the timing light show when the engine is being cranked?
You will need to pull the Spout connector and the timing should be at 10 degrees BTDC.
You need to be cranking the engine as though you are trying to start the engine so there is spark at the plugs.
Hook the timing light to plug wire #1 and see what the timing is at the timing tab on the passenger side of the timing cover.
Okay so that is some tool I would have to go out by. The only timing light or really I don't think it a timing light. I've just heard my grandpa say it is. So the timing light I am talking about u hook one end to a ground and then u stick the other end in to a wire or a fuse socket and it lights up. Is that what ur talking about. Also can putting a new radio with amp and two new speakers make the vehicle the way it is now. And so u no the only thing the am is hooked up to is the main battery for the power and then the sub is hooked up through the amp and the only wires going to the amp from the radio is two rca jack. I don't think it has anything to do with the computer or stuff of that nature because of the way I have it hooked up. Am I worng
A timing light has a clamp that goes around the spark plug wire and the light flashes when the spark fires the spark plug.
Yes you will need to buy one because you will need to set the ignition timing.
Okay thx another thing so obd 1 reader isn't picking up any codes. So I went on YouTube to try and do it the other. And my check engine light is blinking or anything of that nature. Now I just bought a brand new computer. How would I go by check it to see if it's bad
You said you now have spark and gas so the computer is not your problem at the moment.
Chances are since you put in a new distributor the ignition timing is way off and the engine will not start and run.
You need to get the ignition timing correct before you do any thing else.
The ignition timing is checked using cylinder #1.
There is a timing mark on the harmonic balancer that needs to line up with the timing marks on the timing tab when the timing light flashes.
Google "checking the timing with a timing light"
Just a comment, and please do not take offense: finding out what to repair by throwing new parts randomly at a problem is the most expensive way to do it. You have already spent more in parts than a shop would have charged to find out where the problem actually is.
Okay so we got it to fire. EITHER!!!! but after that burnt out the engine died. So we r not getting fuel from the fuel pumps witch are test and good. To the engine. New things that have been bought for this some fuses idoed for ecu. Also we are not getting power to the intierta switch. What can I do thank u
