So my transmission finally got to the point where it has 4 neutrals and park. Its been coming for a while but its there now for sure.
I was going to install the bellowed up pipes when changing transmission but having trouble deciding which set to get and was hoping someone could lead me to what they have had good experience with.
Normally, i would order from Riffraff but they have been out of stock on all sets for a while now. Any other suggestions?
You are absolutely correct and brought some good points i failed to mention. I am in GA so salt issues is definitely not a concern. Even when we do have ice, my job keeps me in a company truck for before and during the event until everyone's house is toasty warm. I mainly use this truck for farm related work-towing and hauling. Its not nearly as nice as a lot of the ones here but definitely worth spending the money on for another 150k of hopeful usage. At 8k miles a year, diesel will either be outlawed or i will be dead before that point. I purchased it in 2009 with 160k and have 245 k on it now.
I try to buy from Riffraff typically but I did go with Dorman years back due to price. No issues whatsoever. There are several options but I am satisfied with my choice other than not American made. But then again.....
Dormans are cheap but I have no problem recommending them. PN 679-005. Just be sure to buy them local so you can inspect them. Look at the alignment dowel. A bit of mushrooming on it from impact can be filed off, but misplacement can be a bigger hurdle. Dry fit them on the bench before install. On mine the pin was misaligned but since I bought online I chose to grind out the collector to blend it to the turbo. I also had to grind down the "bellybutton" at the center, it was an outty and did not let the collector seat all the way into the baby's butt.
I’ve ran a $120 “Alpha Dog” set from Amazon and a $60 cheapest we could find set from eBay on dad’s truck. No issues with either set.
I had to work hard to convince dad to spend a little on bellowed during his turbo rebuild. About any of the bellowed sets will be better than the leaking stock units.
As others have mentioned, look for stainless steel and do a dry fit on the bench.
I used Polished SS set from Blackhorse Racing at recommendation from SSJ. No issues with fitment. Haven't had them on long. So can't attest to durability. Only issue I see with Blackhorse Racing is I don't see the specific ones I purchased (polished SS) listed on their website very often. Only see regular up-pipes listed as a package with pedestal and other items. Maybe it is a lack of supply thing at the moment. Not sure.
I have installed over a dozen Dorman up pipes on several customers truck's including on one of mine. And never had a problem . I had a set of international up pipes from Riff Raff on my other truck which were also great but much more expensive. Bang for your buck Dorman all the way though.
I believe any of the cheaper ones will be about the same. My $120 set and dad’s $60 set only had very slight differences. His casting quality seemed just a bit rougher than mine but no issue. I think his bolts may have been different.
I say as long as it says stainless to go for it. Which I see you have already done.
