My van has got 201k on it and I am on my original tranny. I don't know it I should go any further, or simply dump it at my first chance.
Well, I was awakened by some bad news from the alignement shop today. They were unable to do the alignment because of several issues I will list below.
I want to hear your opinoins on this one. They quoted me $500 for the labor and $300-600 for parts, I also have the option to get them used, the shop doesn't care.
Drivers side front spring broken
Drivers side inner & outer tierods
Passenger side upper control arm bushings missing
Passenger side outer tie rod end
Passenger side rear spring broken
I did crawl under it just to verify that indeed these problem were true and yes they are.
Also after taking with the alignment shop they recommend that I replace the entire rack and pinion due to its age and mileage. That the sector shaft seal will leak shortly.
Things I found myself:
Bad thermostat
Bad C/V boots on both shafts
Rear shocks leak
I don't have time now to go look up prices, but all these are easily remedied for a person of average mechanical ability for, I'll estimate, around $355.00 including those items you found and including replacing the rack and pinion.
If you have the mechanical ability the cost is fairly minimal considering all that is wrong. You must have the AWD 4.0 model which is good for another 50,000 miles easily.
The one caveat to this is. With both springs broken, there may be some additional hidden damage.
If you can't fix it yourself, then selling would be the best option.
