Voltage Regulator

does the voltage regulator ground itself to the truck through it's metal casing or is it grounded through wires?

could be either, what engine do you have and how many wires are at the regulator?

Through the metal case of the reg.

well it's a 400.. so if it grounds through the metal case then it would have to be bolted fairly securely to the truck itself to get a good ground.. but the bolts have nothing to grab.. any suggestions on that?

You could always add a wire from the case direct to the battery negative, then it wouldnt matter if the mount bolts were loose.

hmm... i dunno about that i am not to into half-assing stuff.. maybe just a couple of bolts that are a size bigger?

Adding a wire from the case of the regulator, to the negative of the battery, or the sheetmetal of the the fender, or the metal of the engine block, is a perfectly legitmate fix for older vehicles that have problems with corrosion and vibration.
Forcing larger bolts in the holes would probably work, but I think would also fall into your half-****** catagory.
