Parking cable removal

Truck is a 77 F250 Rwd. Cab is going to my F100. Parking cable is the last piece to remove to have the cab ready to lift off. My question is how do I get this out of this crossmember without using the cutoff wheel like I did when I removed the f100 cab.

It appears to be like the cables that enter the backing plates. If so, they make a special tool, but I used a small hose clamp to compress the fingers and get them started through the hole, then loosen and remove.

Of course. I was in the same boat wondering how in the hell do they come out. Someone helped me along with the tip and it worked. Of course both of mine were covered in a fine amalgam of shoe material and brake fluid which made it that much more difficult, but they came out. The trick is getting a hose clamp large enough to have the muscle to pull the tabs down, while not being so large to not allow the fingers to slip into the frame hole when compressed.

Yes just use some pliers and squeeze the 2 tabs on the collar locking it in the cross member. Hose clamp is a good idea also.

Brush it up and hit it with the air hose to get dirt etc... out from behind the tabs so they will compress a little easier. I bought the tool and it does work, but I wish I had thought about the hose clamp idea. It would have save me about 8 bucks.

I used a boxed end wrench to remove mine. I can't remember the size but it slipped over the cable and disengaged the tabs allowing me to pull it out of the crossmember.

I sprayed it with pb let it soak a bit & blasted it with brake cleaner to flush the dust & debris. I'll soak it again tonight & try some of those ideas. Thanks guys.

what I'm working on moving. Orange clip is from my F100 SC (my HS truck) which is where this cab will live on.
