What to Use to Pull Others Out of Ditch?
So over the weekend I came across a FedEx truck that had gotten its rear wheels stuck in some soft dirt; apparently the driver needed to turn around and backed too far off the road - the truck was blocking half the road. So I stop to help out, but all I had with me were my safety chains on my fifth wheel hitch. They worked fine, but I realized that I need something to carry around for such occasions.
So, what are you folks using to pull others out of a ditch? I have a 2-1/2" receiver and would like recommendations on a tow hook mount and towing strap. Oh, I have to pull it off the receiver to fit the truck into the garage so I want to be able to store under the rear seat while not in use, so compactness is a good feature!
Thanks.

this is what I use to hook to the back if the truck, a good tow strap is a must and a short chain to hook the towed vehicle and protect your strap.

I carry a 20' 3/8" grade 70 chain. If using a chain don't use the jerking method of getting the vehicle out, chains aren't made for that.
I also carry a 4 ton come along incase I need it while out exploring off the beaten path.
A ****** strap is probably what you're after for ease of stowing it away.

Don't over think this. Your safety chains worked fine in this case. I have two tow straps under my seat I use. I roll them up and store under my seat. I use a hammer lock I installed on my hitch.
Something like this will work . Make sure of the pull rating don't cheap out on stuff like this.

A Tow strap or recovery rope of about 30’. There are a ton of different brands, qualities, price points. The easiest cheapest way to attach to rear of truck is to stick the eye of the stray in the receiver and insert a receiver pin through the eye of the strap. A couple of good soft shackles and maybe a 7/8” screw pin D ring should be plenty to rig onto a stuck vehicle.

I have two soft shackles, a 2 1/2 reciever insert with metal shackle and a recovery strap. All under my rear seat. Have not needed the reciever insert yet but have used the soft shackle to hook the strap to the tow hook to pull out the wife when she got stuck in the drift at the end of the driveway.
