@SkySkiJason has some strong opinions on brakes. And he has the experience to back it up so calling him in for his words of advice. I’m pretty sure he says EBC Yellowstuff.

Curious what you used to weld the exhaust pipe up? As far as brakes go I use EBC yellow stuff on my f-450 for hauling heavy loads and they seem to do pretty well

Hvyhaulr saw the post, liked it, but didn't answer.

So.. it's game on. Guessing game, that is.

My guess is that it was back step welded (based on the starts and stops) to mitigate heat distortion, using a wire feeder, in spray mode, with a pulse waveform. (GMAW-P)

I look forward to what he says. I did research on brakes and I read so much stuff on “these work but it’s noisy or too must dust” idc. I just want to stop well. lol

how about rotors? I need those too.

just mig welder, regular old wire. I’d say these are more robotic looking and less like a normal weld. I didn’t do much “C” action because the flange was so thick I concentrated on the flange and the puddle spilled onto the thin exhaust tubing

glad to hear EBC is good stuff. How about rotors

Ok I was curious because I was going to attempt to weld some of my exhaust when I install my aero turbine muffler but heard it can be a pain to weld. As far as rotors I've always just used motorcraft because I have a commercial account with a local dealer. I get the heavy duty version and have never had any warp under really hard braking conditions while hauling. EBC yellow stuff has great breaking power but they do seem to wear out rotors faster than other pads. It's a pick your poison kinda thing . I'm sure others will chime in with some advice on what they like as well

I hate exhaust work with a passion and I’ll say the 4in exhaust from summit wasn’t as thin and terrible as others I’ve used in the past. I think that helped a ton

Welds look great. I’m anxious to see how you like the exhaust brake!!!

100% EBC Yellowstuff. There is no better pad for braking authority. I shop around for best prices. ALWAYS look at ‘available from other sellers’ from Amazon. ‘Used’ will be a return item and I OFTEN buy these at 40% off for F250/350.

Amazon Amazon

Only ‘lifetime warranty’ rotors from Napa (Adaptive One line). Rotors are wear items. The more expensive stuff is mostly gimmicks or the same or even cheaper crap with holes in them in a fancier box with red-painted calipers...

If you are replacing the rear rotors as well, stick to Motorcraft. They are the only rotors (pretty sure) that has a textured surface on the inside of the hat to aid in holding the parking brake when set. Many of us have had good luck with Hawk SD pads too, but they are not the EBC Yellow Stuff pads by any means.

Just buy Motorcraft.

Let Ford do the supplier vetting.

I have been happy with my EBC yellowstuff pads and EBC dimpled and slotted rotors.

My next brake job will be the beefy SSBC calipers and pads

You're going to love the SSBC calipers. May I suggest these pads though:
Amazon Amazon

The Hummer H2 uses the same size pads if you want to shop for other brake pads.

EDIT: Put anti-sieze on the threads of the bleeder nipples. Steel nipples (BCBW) in aluminum calipers tend to get stuck.

When considering the SSBC calipers I called to ask what kind of pads came preloaded. All they could say was "good ones", so I got some Hawk LTS pads on hand. When they arrived I was surprised to see they were loaded with Hawk SuperDuty pads. Since I already had the LTS pads on hand I saved the SD pads for later. And I found them after moving twice!

No idea if they were standard at the time, or what pads they come with now.

@aawlberninf350 did you find these calipers for your f-550? I've been looking for some for my f-450 and haven't had much luck. I emailed ssbc and they sent me a part number for a 2017-2022 f450 by accident and still haven't heard back from them
