door handle stuff

Right now I’m using bear claw latches for the door locks with solenoids/relays and console buttons to open close the doors. I would like to add an inside door handle (called the door handle regulator) to the passengers side. (don’t ask). I’ve looked at the shop manual and it’s not real detailed as far as the door actuator and bar that operate the original latches.

My solenoids pull a rod attached to the bear claw that unlatches it. I’m wondering if I installed the inside (behind the inner skin) with some modifications to pull a cable attached to the bear claw that would release the latch IN ADDITION TO having the option of the button on the console.

How much movement does the regulator have that it might pull a cable to release the latch ?? AND I’m assuming that the regulators are the same for both doors or do I need to specify a passenger or right hand regulator ??? I snatched all this out of my doors and haven’t got a clue on any of it and I think I sold/gave away the originals. Little help ??

Personally, I would not rely on an electric solenoid only to open my doors from the inside. One popped fuse or battery/cable issue and you're crawling through a window hole to get out. Having an inside handle is a good idea, especially in an emergency situation.

That said, looking at the picture of an interior release handle unit it looks like there's more movement built into the handle shaft than is necessary to move the bar to the latch. You could remove the bar and attach the cable anywhere along the lever to accommodate any amount of throw necessary to pull the cable the required amount to trip the bear claw. It wouldn't take much, but you want enough to move the handle several inches and not have it trip too easy.

While looking for the picture of the handle remote above, I ran into this nifty deal. Something like this could be incorporated and hidden within the arm rest if you didn't want a big exposed handle.

John,
It would be easy enough to lengthen the arm on the regulator and , as you know, the farther down the new arm you mounted the cable the more cable movement you would get with minimal movement of the handle.
