Question 98 F150 Door/Ign Keys

I have a 98 F150 XLT. I bought is used a couple years ago and realized this weekend that the ignition key does not unlock the doors.

It was broken into and someone stole the stereo last year. It had the Ford theft deterrent system and then i put in an aftermarket alarm after the stereo issue. Both had keyless entry so i never tried the key in the door locks.

To enter the vehicle, the theif smashed what appears to be a screwdriver into the passenger door lock and unlocked the door. Anyways, i was trying the key in the door locks and it does not work - including the drivers door lock that was not damaged.

There is only supposed to be one key for both the doors and ignition - right? I only got one when i bought the truck. The key does work the lock in the tailgate.

If there is supposed to be a second key, how do i get one? From Ford?

Thanks for the input!!

It is the same key. The 98's (I have 2) have had a problem with the tumblers in the door locks. When you insert the key into the door lock, wiggle it around a bit and hopefully the door will open. If not, I,m sorry to say that it's off to the Ford dealer to replace the door locks. I installed keyless entry on both of mine after replacing the locks a couple of times.

Good luck.

Sometimes a bunch of WD40 sprayed into the lock will free it up.

Thanks for the replies. I will give the WD-40 a shot. I want to be able to open the door if the battery dies. Here in AZ, car batteries die every 2-3 years!!!

Thanks Racerguy! The wd-40 worked. I also put in some graphite so that should take care of it for a while.

Sounds good
The WD40 cleans out the lock and the graphite should keep it from sticking again.
