Need to do something about the NP435 transmission bearing noise. The current transmission in my truck is making grumbling, rattling, and bearing noises when in neutral, clutch depressed and in 2nd and 3rd gear.
I have an untested spare in a parts vehicle that the PO was restoring (but gave up).
would it make sense to replace the current NP435 with the donor transmission and see how it works?
or, rebuild the donor before trying it out?
I don’t want to rebuild a transmission and spend money if it doesn’t need it, but on the other hand, replacing the current one with a rebuilt one may be the way to go.
the current truck is drivable but I don’t have confidence in the longevity of the transmission .
would a transmission shop be able to bench test the replacement tranny and tell me? Yet, that shop is 3.5 hours from here ... one way.
I'd swap it out with the spare. Maybe pull the top off first to wash it out and inspect for any major issues before sticking it in with some fresh oil. Not much to lose except a days work.
