Hello,
I just retired late last year from over 40 years commercial fishing in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Island area as a factory trawler Captain. Time to start playing.
We just ordered a new F350 Platinum with diesel in Carbonized Grey so it'll probably be a long wait. One dealer told me when I was in the shopping process the wait is around16 weeks, hopefully it'll be shorter. The dealer did have one in the build process that would be available in about 5 weeks that matched somewhat what we were looking for. It was a Tremor which I could take or leave but we passed on it because the wife didn't want the Lithium Grey. Happy wife...happy life. I'll sell my 2013 Chevy Silverado Duramax dually. Good, good truck but we don't need the dually so we're giving Ford a try. Actually I've been a Chevy guy through the years and have no complaints but with Chev's newer HD models they seem to be lagging a bit with the tech...adaptive cruise for one. We really like adaptive cruise on our car so has moved me over to Ford. The trucks main job will be towing my 28' boat that I use mainly for salmon and albacore tuna sport fishing. It'll be a bit overkill for the boat I think but I'd rather be over than under.
Welcome and congratulations on your upgrade to Ford! Forum like this is the best way to make new friends and learn something new about a passion that runs deep. Hope you stick around and find it useful!
Wups bad typer...350 of course but you already knew that.
Boat is a 28' Farallon Walkaround with a D340 Volvo with their DPI outdrive. https://www.farallonboats.com/2800 Band new last summer. Picked it up in Sacramento, towed it to Westport WA, parked it and flew to AK to work (fish). Retired late October so only had a few seatrials with it. Salmon and Albacore fishing should be fun this summer.
Welcome to the site, enjoy the ride. Welcome to retirement I beat you by a month 9-1-20, I laid down my stethoscope. I'm still working on getting good at being retired.
JDski...thanks. Happy retirement to you also.
Yeah the retirement thing. I'm not missing the Bering Sea gig with all the COVID problems/restrictions/fears et cetera. Last year doing crew changes in a closed system such as a boat was nerve racking. Retired at a good time I think. I do keep telling my wife "I don't have enough time.". I get the eye rolls on that. Anyway time to play with a new truck whenever I get it and of course the boat.

Nice boat.
I've gone out several times fishing for tuna, chinook etc here in BC, but mostly fish in rivers and lakes.

All of the projects that kept building up while you are busy with a career and things you want to do and see you, now have the rest of your life to get completed In retirement and when the good Lord takes you then that is the way it was meant to be.I find staying physically fit enough to still preform to a level I am happy with is a lot of work with an old body. I snow and water ski (Correct Craft- Natique) and and upland game hunt in the high deserts. I find I need to do some level of a workout at least five days a week.and eating is only if you want to gain weight.
Your boat is amazing. I have always wanted a boat with an enclosed cabin as I love being in wild weather in amazing places. That boat will keep you comfortable and allow you to fish as you wish.
