Engine building guidance

I bought a F4TE stamped 351 Windsor. Stock from the looks of it although it’s been rebuilt at one time. My buddy came and did a compression test and one of the exhaust valves isn’t functioning properly. I’d like to rebuild the top end but want to make sure I’m buying the right stuff. Can anyone give me some guidance for aluminum heads (do I need a specific size for clearance or anything). Also intake, carb and Etc. I’d like to keep it under 2k all in. I’m really hoping to get an entire list of things that I’m going to need to build a fully new and properly functioning top end. Anyone willing to help me?

Your choice of cylinder heads will be fairly limited because your heads of choice will have to work with the valve reliefs that are in the stock pistons. This means you'll have to use a head like an Edelbrock Performer with a 1.94 intake valve diameter.

Doesn’t flow tech make a set as well? The intake needs to be 1.9 for minimum correct anything over is OK? Also am I correct in saying that it’s a hydraulic roller cam and so their heads need to be specific for a hydraulic roller?

The intake valve can be smaller but not larger than about 1.94 if the head uses a 1.600 exhaust valve. The only way the intake valve can be larger is by having the valve centerlines spread from the stock position. This put the intake valve out of position with the stock valve relief in the piston.

Also the heads don't care what kind of lifters are being used.

It is always recommended that P-V clearance be checked when installing non factory heads, but many aftermarket pistons with valve reliefs will accommodate heads with up to 2.02/1.60" valves. Aftermarket heads like the twisted wedge versions from Trickflow require special pistons because the valves are rotated slightly in the chamber, and that means the valve eyebrows in the pistons have to be in non standard spots too.

The stock pistons in these motors do not have any valve eyebrows... they have a dished crown, and bigger valves with higher lift cams can create clearance problems at the ridge of the dish. But the pistons can be flycut to create clearance, this is a labor intensive process though.

Edelbrock intakes are tried and true. Their carbs are good as well. We have an Edelbrock carb on my Dad's 351w And it runs great. It has electric choke too, and is reasonably priced at about $350. I believe it 's a 450cfm. Also I have seen some Summit brand carbs that are pretty cheap.
You could also buy an old carb and rebuild it, but by the time you do that it would be worth it to buy one new. Buy I definitely recommend Edelbrock carbs and intake.

Yes, they do. They need stiffer springs for use with hyd roller lifters

The heads themselves don't care what kind of lifters you use. The springs have to match the cam.
