pleasantly surprised
I haven't checked with any of the rip-off shops about what the cat is worth. Couple of sources I found said less than $100. Strange when my little Prius bring $600.
Bingo! It would make an awesome trailer. First thought was to just weld a tongue onto the frame, but the rear end is too heavy, and that'd make hauling off the carcass even harder. So doing so research, I now think the best way is to just mount the box on a flatbed trailer, and I just so happen to have a couple I'm not using.
Looking underneath, it seems straightforward. These ambulances boxes are stout to meet federal regs, not like a typical box truck, and it's all aluminum. My trailers have pipe/angle iron rails about a foot high. Since the box is wider than the trailer bed, I can just mount it on those rails to get it over the trailer's fenders. I'd just have to fabricate two trusses to run lengthwise down the bed spaced like the truck's frame with holes to match the box's existing bushings.
I guesstimate the box is about 16' long. I have a 16' and a 20' trailer. I'm thinking I'll mount it on the back of the 20' and leave a 4' storage space in front of it to hold a generator and window AC. The front of the box has the cut-out to get in/out of the cab, and that's where I can mount the AC. Recall, I call this an ambulance, but the Red Cross uses them like a box truck. Here's pics again:
No side door like an ambulance, sliding window next to a little desk area instead
Spare tire bay with battery charger
Engine and aux batteries, I could make them all aux batteries
two seats, one at the desk swivels.
that shelf folds up. It's wide enough to sleep on laying sideways, which is how I sleep, but would prolly take that out.
