The van's axle is approx. 68" wide and it's leaf spring perches are welded as far outboard as possible at 51" apart.
The truck's axle is approx. 65 1/2" wide and it's leaf spring perches are welded 45" apart.
They are not interchangeable!
Good luck!

8 lugs is right.

I blew the axle on my 84 last year and tried using one from a 83 van. No way!
You are going to have to find a axle from a van to go to your van. I wound seriously think about changing out the gears instead.
P.S.: This probably should have went to Axle, Trans., Drivetrain forum. Just a thought.
Good Luck!!
