All right guys don't think I am a dummy for asking this. I have a 90 model f 150 5.0 auto 4x4. I have a 99 explorer 5.0 freshened up and ready to go in, I used my oil pan from the old engine as well as the dipstick. I just put a new filter motor craft fl1a and 6qts of oil in it. I used a drill and a long extension with a 1/4 inch socket and primed my oil system had a gauge in the sender hole and had almost 60 psi. Now I can check the oil and it shows 1qt low even after sitting over night. What could be going on?
Did you also use the dipstick tube from your old 1990 engine? At any rate after adding 6 quarts with no leaks, where the oil level sits now should be considered your full mark.

Yes dip stick and tube and pan from old engine. When I got the truck a few months ago it was not running and the previous owner had redone that engine at some point. So I dont know if it had the correct pan and dipstick in it.
