1998 Ranger 4x4 lights blinking

1998 Ranger 4x4 lights blinking
I have a 98 Ranger and the 4x4 lights are flashing 6 times every couple of minutes. When it does this while driving, the transmission goes into a neutral state until I let off the accelerator. When I do, it slams back into gear. Anyone have any experience with that?

I see you don't have any replies yet, so will see if I can get things started. Good idea to have posted up the 4X4 flashed code 6. Still Lots of unknowns, so use, borrow, or come by the inexpensive ELM scan tool & running diagnostic freeware FORScan on the viewing device of your choice as discussed here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-scantool.html. As this powerful diagnostic combo is tweaked for Fords, it can query All of the vehicle computer / controllers for trouble code clues. Then post up All code Numbers in case you have more than one problem, as together they can help focus a trouble shoot.
Did this problem come about suddenly after some event???
Is the 4X4 system functional, such that it'll shift into & out of 4X4 Hi & Low & into 4X2 ok & the indicator lamps all indicate correctly & you can hear the 4X4 transfer case shift motor work when the 4X4 buttons are pushed ??? Some beginning thoughts for consideration, let us know what you find.
