the tube the feeds the sensor on the front of the engine broke. How vital is this that I fix it? Any way to bypass the sensor to make the truck run better?
Its not hard at all if you don't have 2 alternators. Just make sure you pre soak fittings on both ends with pb blaster or my favorite is hilco lube if you can get your hands on it

There is a new design out that will not look like your original line, unless it has already been swapped. @DieselOrings and @Riffraff Performance are great sources of OEM and quality parts and they are both sponsors here on the FTE.
I’ve heard you can cap the nipple on the manifold, clean your sensor, cut off the tube right below the sensor and crimp it closed. So that you don’t have to worry about the sensor getting dirty again.
Does this all sound right?

Yes but I highly recommend against this. But yes, you could do that.
Per my curiosity, why is the negative side effects of doing that?
The EBPS is used by the PCM to control fuel injection. Not having it installed correctly would result in a default setting for the fuel table.
You can try this for yourself. Start your truck, then while it is running unplug the sensor. You will hear a change in the way it runs. This is safe to do, I have done it. That said, I'm not responsible for any explosions haha

Haha understand! Okay so again I’m just trying to understand this! But would unplugging the sensor and caping the pipe have the same result? Because I have had it come unplugged unknowingly and you definitely know something happened!
I just have been told that if you cap it, the PCM will presume you never have “too much” back pressure and give it the “max” fuel?
My sensor is plugged in but the tube is now rotted off at the halfway point between fittings..it broke after I had to remove the plate the sensor is on. Weird design

Well I suppose I’d order a new tube (Do NOT get the Dorman) it will not fit correctly, unless they changed things recently!
I cleaned my sensor a while back with carb cleaner and a few q-tips, made the truck run a Lot better! My tube was sealed off with soot!
