Any help finding a post on how to do the cups would be appreciated. And where would you rent the tool? It's not an Autozone typical rental.
Thanks
Welcome to FTE!
Here are instructions for replacing the cups, as well as the links for the cup tool rental. You could probably return it as a core to Alliant as well.
That injector nut ( lower half of injector, upper is called injector body) has an extra hole in it.Most certainly usable as a core with a new nut in it.But i am quite sure that nobody will refund you for that core.
From what I have heard and experienced in the past, is when ordering new Alliants, they will accept just about anything back. I have been under the understanding that Alliant just has them melted down, and remade
I went to change injectors on my early '99 7.3L and pulled one with a blow-out like it was shot from the inside out by a .22 right above the 4 oil ports towards the bottom of the injector. What the heck caused this and is there anything I need to look at before reinstalling the new one?
Based on the photo, the blown through hole is not "right above the 4 oil ports". Rather, it is above the fuel fill ports.
It almost appears as if the blown through hole was pierced by fuel ejected at pressure during the spill portion of each injection event, little by little, over a long period of time.
Is this the only injector that presented this blown through hole?
Have you inspected the other injectors on that part of the injector body that communicates with the fuel rail (where the four holes are) to see if there is any raised portion or bump, or small fissure or crack or tiny split on the outer barrel body? A bump or tiny crack would indicate where the outer surface of the metal was stretched from pressure applied in the inner surface.
Who (what company) rebuilt the injector?
Are you the original owner of the truck?
Do you have any evidence or premonition that the injector that blew out is an original injector?
Do you have any other photos that show the entire body of the injector, including the cup area, to see the heat signature, if visible?
