I started my truck after sitting about 3 weeks. Tapped the key, it started right up, backed it out of the garage and it died. I tried to restart, it just cranked over. I took the air cleaner off and noticed right away, no smell of gas, pumped the pedal, no gas, tank is 3/4 full. I sprayed some starting fluid and it ran till the spray ran out. Pushed it back in the garage. I noticed gas ozzing from the filter, nothing major, so minor there’s no drip under the truck. My question, must I run an original pump/filter combo or is there a pump without the filter attached? There’s really no way to monitor the condition of the gas unless I put a clear filter between the tank and the pump meaning your under the truck to check it.
If filter on bottom of fuel pump change the fuel filter. That can just screws off. Had to do that on my 64 F700 other day. Wood only run at idle, die when give little throttle.

ive never done this type of filter change before. When you unscrew the can, will the gas pour out? Do I need to crimp the inlet line?
crimp the rubber hose, and while you're at it check the condition of the hose, it may be time to replace that as well. I have always put an inline brass shutoff valve in the hose. Makes it easier to change the filter in the future.
