1962 Flare Side, original hood.. Does anyone know which bolts on the hood hinges to body and hinge to hood affect movement in what direction? I loaned my manual on CD to a friend and can't remember which bolts move the hood in what direction. Right now I have the passenger side rear corner up about 1/2' over the drivers side and it looks like the whole hood is too far forward on both sides. In addition, the passenger side snubber on the front of the fender is mashed down while the driver's side snubber just makes contact. Any help would be appreciated. Here's some pics to show the gaps.
Hinge to hood bolts adjust forward, back and side to side. Hinge to firewall bolts adjust the rear of the hood up and down. Tips: remove all rubber bumpers and hood catches. Get the hood aligned without their interference, then install them to maintain the alignment that you have achieved. Try to get someone to help you hold the hood position when loosening bolts. Padded wood sticks or broom handles work as pry bars. Loosen the bolts just enough to allow the hood to move by tapping with a non-marring rubber mallet. Work with one direction at a time and make tiny adjustments. Remember, adjusting only the right side forward will also move the front of the hood to the left. Small adjustments near the cab make for big adjustments at the nose. Also, like the assembly line workers did back in the day, if you get it really close, dare to flex the hood gently to make the final perfection....
...no problem, good luck. It looks like your right side needs to go down a little and your left side needs to go up a little, where the hood meets the cab. I'm not sure on the right side, it looks like the hood needs to go forward to match the fender, but that's going to increase the gap at the cab. I wonder if you're able to move the fender on the right side back a little bit. The gap at the door will tell you......oh, and one more thing to be careful of: If you move the hood back (it doesn't look like you need to) or move the cab edge of the hood down (like on the right side), be careful when you open it, to make sure the lip doesn't catch and chip the paint on the cowl....
I adjusted the hood back and down as much as I could without hitting anything but I still have a problem where the rear passenger corner pops up when I close the hood. I can push it down about halfway but it's not right. I read several threads on here that talked about that problem and it always went back to worn or sprung hinges. These are brand new from LMC.
...the video is helpful. I think I would be sending that hinge back to LMC. They don't have a very good reputation in general, and the import hinges are questionable. Maybe you can find an original.....I know you've done a lot of work to get to this point but I fear a faulty hinge is going to hinder your progress. I didn't run into that because I had original rebuilt hinges. There's no reason that right side should be popping up like that if the hinge were doing its job!!
Resonator is right the re-pops are hit and miss. They should replace the hinge. But on an original hinge that is just worn to the point that the back of the hood won't quite come all the way down you can put washers under the most forward bolt between the hinge and the hood. A 1/8 washer there will bring the back of the hood down about 3/16 inch.
UPDATE: Well LMC replaced the hinge with a new one and I put that on yesterday. It fixed the problem.
m and I got the hood adjusted to 1/16" difference side to side by myself. When my buddy shows up, I'll try and tighten that up a bit. Thanks again all.
