I would like to remove a few leafs from the front and rear of my 55 F-100 to lower and would like to know if this can be done without removing the entire leaf spring pack? If so, what is the safe way to do this and tools needed? Thanks. Steve
Yes it can be done on the truck. You’ll need basic hand tools to remove the u bolts and you will need a die to chase the center bolt because when you remove leaves the threaded part of the center bolt will not have enough threads
Thank you very much. Will I need any clamps to keep the springs from flying once the U-Bolts are removed or is that only needed when the entire leaf pack is removed from the vehicle? Sorry of this is a dumb question just want to avoid serious injury or death.

Reason: Word change
Have your jack stands on the frame so the springs are hanging. I do one side at a time. Use your floor jack to support the axle once the u bolts are off.
when you loosen the center bolt to can put a c clamp on it but they won’t go flying around no hidden force. Easy peasy
also I only remove 2 leaves it’s a lot of work for 3/4”
First, get new centering bolts, and maybe a couple extra as you might be doing this several times. Mid-fifty has them and I think I also saw them at Rock Auto. Clamp the spring pack with two c-clamps before removing the centering bolt. Then slowly loosen the c-clamps. Depending on how long the new centering bolts are, you might need the c-clamps to bundle the leaves back together.
Thanks Abe and Allen. I beleive the color is aqua blue but sice it was already painted when I bought it, I along with the previous owner are unsure. I have seen this color on other 55s however. Steve
