Going to order a new turn signal switch for my truck. Don't know if all 67-72 would use the same one, but my steering column is 70 model I think. I don't have the original switch to compare to and the one in it isnt right. I know it isn't right because I installed it and made it work. Three original was lost somewhere during cleaning up.


I think this is the correct switch, looks right from what I remember.

1967/70 have a 3 spoke steering wheel with either a horn button or horn ring.

1971/77 have a 2 spoke steering wheel with a horn bar.

1961/70: Horn brush fits into the outside of the steering wheel at approx 7:00 o'clock once the horn button or ring is removed.

Horn brush fits into the upper flange, located below the steering wheel. It's the same brush for both.

 

Thanks Bill. As I'm sure you know, once people start mixing and matching parts on these trucks, who knows what the next owner is actually getting.

I looked up the two T/S part numbers you gave and I can see no visible difference between them, makes me wander what they changed. I know that the body is a 70 model, my dad installed it on the 68 chassis he got from his step-dad and I doubt that he swapped the steering column since they were both floor shift manual.

It definitely had the 67-70 3 spoke steering wheel with the horn ring. I wish someone made a 15" version of that steering wheel, I love the appearance when they aren't all cracked up, but it was just too large diameter for me. I do not recall there being a horn brush between the button and wheel when I pulled it apart. Maybe that's why the horn didn't work, or maybe I'm just forgetful and it was there. Dad said he got it to working once, but it was parked for 12 years before I got it, so he might be remembering wrong too.

Anyhow, I actually got impatient and ordered the parts last night. I ordered the D0TZ-13341-B switch from Dennis Carpenter based on their listed applications, so it sounds like I got that one right. I also ordered a C20Z-13A821-A horn ring contact brush. I'm hoping I got that second one right.

Hey Bill, wanted to say thanks again. Got those parts installed and everything seems to fit much better. While ordering the switch I also got a new horn relay, with the new switch and relay the horn button is now working. That said it wasn't the only problem with my horn.

Turns out there isn't a horn installed on the truck.

Dad said he'd gotten it working in the past, so I assumed that the horn was there, even though I didn't know where there was. I assumed it was tucked up behind the grill somewhere and I just hadn't noticed it. Well after getting the new switch and a new horn relay I could actually hear the horn relay closing so I know everything is working that far. Assumed either horn was bad, broke wire, or bad connection. I decided I'd jump the horn straight to 12v to see if it worked at all, and go from there. So I went looking for the horn and couldn't find it. Consulted electrical schematics that show horn beside radiator, it isn't there. Did find a connector that looks like it was for a horn, but getting late and needed an extra set of hands so I'll check it tomorrow.

So, I guess there is a good reason my horn isn't working. Now to decide how I want to fix it.
