Brake lights check
I discovered that both braided wires attached to the brake pedal switch had broken, internally, at the crimps where they were connected to the back of the switch. Ford wants $16.50 for this connector. I repaired the existing one.
Our '88 Bronco II seems to be suffering from lots of random faults lately. It must be a sign of age, 159,000 miles.
It would be a good idea to check the brake lights every so often as these leads seem certain to fail. I have no idea how long ours had been intermittent, but I imagine it's been months.
