This truck has sat for 5yrs. I’m pulling the engine for a complete tear down and rebuild. I have a couple of questions based on the photos. What would cause the two black burnt areas on the Hpop? And from the amount of oil that was leaking down the front passenger side of the engine do you think the hpop was leaking or something else? Any other thoughts are welcome. Burnt areas Leaking oil
Are you sure those dark areas aren't just where gunk accumulated when the engine was compete/running? There are tubes, wires and such in those areas normally.
The leakng oil is a good indicator that something was leaking. Definitely worth cleaning up and replacing any gaskets in that area while it's out.
I thought of that but wanted an opinion of someone who has done this before. My first time. I was hoping not to have to crack open the hpop during this.
That could also be gunk buildup from the fuel filter drain. It runs right there also.
Thanks for the input. Once I get it out and cleaned up I’ll take a closer look. BTW I made a lot of really good memories in a 1986 Iroc Z. 1986 was my senior year of high school. I know for a fact they will do 120mph. Haha.
I have one other question. If I grab the fan and push up or down there is just the slightest bit of play in the fan shaft. Is this normal or am I looking at new parts?
Apologies. Just re-read details available on DieselSite. OE screens started in 99 (presumably with the SD).
For a 96, adding a screen is possible as long as it is part of the HPOP extra capacity reservoir kit. DieselSite states that trying to add the screen on a 96 - 99 (am presuming non-SD motors) without the extra capacity kit will cause the OE reservoir to crack.
78 tbird 351m 4bl would do 120 with no issue
floated like a cloud at that speed
i was a dumb teen too
My 86 Chevette would corner so well (poly bushings all around and stiff springs, 2bl carb, modded intake) I would do 95 mph through the Providence S curves on rt 95 while everyone else would hit their breaks.
buddy with a monte carlo 350 always got mad i would beat him until about 90 mph, then he would pass me
