Since almost all stock manifolds ends up cracking or breaking studs, I'm looking for an aftermarket replacement.
Short headers seems the way to go instead of those cast iron manifolds.
Suggestions on the best brands? I don't want something fancy. Just reliable and affordable headers that will fit.
The truck is a 2010 Navigator. But with the ford part number it can be interchanged with f150's and expeditions.
Ceramic coated one are the way to go, they help keep heat out of the engine bay, are quieter, and don't rust.
To install the driver's side plan on removing both the EGR tube and the oil dipstick.
It is a lot easier for me just to replace the passenger side than doing the complete job for 2 headers and also I'm sure the manifold will fit.
But i'm worried the cast iron manifold won't last as long.
Based on my personal experience, it’s a crapshoot.
I bought my 2006 expedition with 104k miles and sold it at 218k and never had to touch the exhaust.
i had a 2010 f150 at work that needed a manifold at about 60k
my 2014 expedition had a cracked manifold at 75k when I bought it. I had it replaced with new studs and the replacement manifold was warped in just a few thousand miles. Replaced it again under warranty and has been fine for the last 10k miles.
In my old 06 navigator, both manifolds were warped, and the rearward studs broken off in the head. I ended up replacing both manifolds with dorman replacements, same as an f150 and expedition, no egr tubes on the 3v 5.4. The first set lasted about 9 months before warping, I got a set of replacements for free under warranty, they lasted about a year and were starting to leak again when I got into an accident, the navigator got written off, but had they fixed it, headers were going to be installed next! And headers for an expedition or f150 will fit, I have seen it done multiple times on the 5.4 3v.
