Tiny gaskets with RedHead steering box?
dumb question, but what are the tiny gaskets that came with my RedHead steering box for? My understanding was that there is no gasket between the PS lines and the box and this is why they are prone to leaks if you don’t keep the connections super clean. Is this not true? Truck is a 77 f150 4x4 C6 400. Thanks!
1- call Redhead to see what they have to say.
2- look into where the lines hook up and see if the seat will line up with the lines you have.
I want to say your lines are flare so the box should have the same.
I think the later boxes use the rubber O-rings on the end of the lines that would seal on a flat seat in the box.
I would look at #2 maybe even take a picture or 2 before I did #1 and you could send them a picture or 2.
Could be someone put the O-rings in with the wrong pump?

If the seat is cone shaped like the end of the hose flare then no rubber O-rings needed as the flare dose the sealing.
If the seat is flat and the hose end can take a O-ring then it needs the O-ring.
And you cant mix n match them.

1978/79 F100/350 & Bronco use the Ford C-II P/S pump that has a plastic reservoir.
The P/S pressure hose on the pump end has a straight tube with an O-Ring on it, connects to the pump w/a qwik connect fitting.
There are 2 different sizes of O-Rings for these hoses.
1967/77 F100/350 use the Ford/Thompson "pencil neck" P/S pump that has a steel reservoir. The P/S pressure hose threads onto the pump. There is no O-Ring

thank you NumberDummy and thank you for helping me identify my PS pump. Much appreciated.
anyone with a redhead able to answer this question:
it feels like there is a tight spot in the steering when the wheels are on the ground. Right around center wheel alignment. With the wheels up I don’t experience this and there is no play. Any small movement in the steering wheel corresponds to movement at the wheels. But when on the ground there is a little bit of play right around the tight spot. When installing the gearbox I also replaced the pitman arm so there is a new ball joint and I replaced the steering stabilizer as well. I dont remember feeling this with the old box and I’m not sure if this is a gear box adjustment issue or something else. Want to make sure this is normal before I return my old box.
FYI due to a leak at the top of the box redhead instructed me to tighten the top nut and I did so according to their Instructions.
thanks all!
