04 F250 5.4, so the gas cap light came on a few weeks ago. I checked the cap and it was tight. I cleared the light and then it came back on and the check engine light came on with code P0455. Looked it up and said EVAP leak. readr some threads about the code and checked a few things. Gas cap gasket looks good and the filler neck rim is clean. Was looking for a broken or loose hose but did not find anything. Should I just get a new gas cap before replacing the purge valve? Do not want to just throw money into new parts if it is not needed. Any suggestion ? All; lights are off right now but the engine started to run rough tonight. Thank you

Do not throw money at the purge valve, or anything else, for that matter.
Here's the list of suspects per the PC/ED:
There is a way to test the gas cap without any gear, but it's kind of gross. You stick the small end in your mouth, seal it with your lips and see if you can draw or blow air through it. It shouldn't pass air in either direction.
