Ok, I feel like a complete dummy here so please forgive my ignorance as this is my first classic vehicle, let alone a vehicle with the twin I beam suspension setup. How the heck do you jack the front end up and place a jack stand at the same time? Seems for me that either my jack is placed in the right spot but then I can't get a jack stand under the frame because the jack is in the way or when I finally get it positioned right the frame is so high in the air you'd need a 3 foot tall stand just to start with. I feel like I'm missing something obvious here as I've jacked up many cars over the years and worked on them without issue. Maybe I really just need taller jack stands?
I got it done, just backwards. Jacked in the right spot on the beam but from behind the tire so I had room to put the stand under the frame in the front.
When I jack them up to rotate tires, I lift the rear first, and put jackstands under each side. Then i do the front, one side at a time with the jack.
Putting jackstands under the Ibeams can be done, but it's tricky, as you have to jack from a point closer to the center, and getting that right is trial and error to find the proper balance point where you also have enough room for a jackstand.
I've always placed the jack under the bolt under the coil springs. Then, if a jack stand is needed it goes under each respective i-beam as close to the jack as possible. If the i-beams need to be removed then wood blocking goes under the frame near the radius arm bracket.
I only use stands if the tires need to come off. Otherwise, I support any raised vehicle with solid wood blocks under the tires.
