Coolant temp guage not working bottomed out. Changed the coolant temp sensor. Still not working. Will be checking fuses tomorrow. Any suggestions?
I would try one of the ob2 Bluetooth plug in and an app you can download to your phone. This will allow you to see if it It is the gauge works. And you can even monitor many other things also.
Disconnect the sensor and short the terminals together -- should move the gauge to the other extreme -- it is possible you have broken/shorted wire in the harness
Yep, get an adapter and the Torque Pro app (spend the $5 to get the Pro version). You will be using this all the time and it will give you invaluable information from all the truck's computer modules. The convenience of the phone app (or Android in-dash head unit) is nice for day to day monitoring and easy to read. Once all the different PIDs (display IDs) become familiar and then something like FORSCAN or IDS software will give you more diagnosis options.
There are some specific Ford displays you can download onto the Torque app. After downloading, open Torque to homescreen. Click menu button on phone. Tap "settings". Scroll down to "Manage PIDs/Sensors" and tap on it. Click menu button on phone to bring up "Add predefined list". Click on "Ford(Incl PowerStroke)". After the DL you should have many new gauge options available.
Find a wiring schematic and attach a variable resistor to the coolant sensor harness. Changing the resistance will offer two distinct views:
1) The temperature needle will change or not. (increase - decrease)
2) The scan tool display will increase or decrease the values in real time.
