OK, I have had this squeking nosie for about 2 weeks now when I am backing up and ONLY when I am backing up, it sounds like it may be coming from the drive shaft where it meets the transfercase, there is a rubber seal or bushing there, can that be the problem do to it being worn out? If not what could be making the nosie? and how can I fix it? Also when I take off I hear this clunk nosie not very loud just enough so you can hear it, every so offten coming form the rear end area, at least that is where it sounds like it is coming from, what could that be? Any help would be great, Thanks.
your u-joints at the rear axle and at the transfer case. I had the exact same thing happen to me on my 94 f250. You might need to take off the ujoint caps to check for rust. When replacing the u-joint, be sure to get a set with zerk fittings so you can grease them regularly.
I took out the 4 bolts holding the drive shaft in and the end of of the drive shaft is rusted on or is there a bolt hiding right behind the yok holding the U-joint in place to the drive shaft???? Need HELP ASAP. Thank you
there should not be anything else holding the u-joint on the yoke except for the u bolts you said you removed, it may be stuck together with rust or goo, try spraying it with WD40 or 3in1 oil to loosen it up, gentle taps with a rubber or plastic mallet will work too.
Thanks guys for the help, we got it all done now, just going to take a look the transfer case now, its leaking some on the bottom, one of the bolts is striped out or broken and I need to reseal the case also.
