What paint color?

I’m going to be painting my 90 F-150. It’ll probably be a late summer project as I still need to get my suspension done. The truck will be getting a DJM 3/5 kit in the spring then possibly upgraded wheel tire combo.

Now for the paint color discussion. The original color is Raven black, at some point a previous owner painted the red. It’s really showing it’s age and has several chips wear and tear on it. The door jambs inside doors and under hood still showing the original black with red over spray however. It’s what I’d call a 15’ job.

I’m not a huge fan of black, though nothing looks better when clean and free of swirls. I’m not a huge fan of red though red looks good in the right combo etc. I am a fan of the classic 2 tone combos in the 70’s and 80’s. Vehicles just don’t have that anymore and I like that it’s different.

So my dilemma is this:
- Do I go Raven Black ( back to factory)
- Do I go Red ( and paint the door jambs etc)
- Do I go Red/White 2 tone ( jambs as well)

On a side note my wife wants it Red/White. I included pic of my truck and color options.

I didn’t see where I could do a poll sorry

Thanks

As truck is now

My vote is to go back to black.

Since whoever didn’t take the time to paint the door jambs I assume they also didn’t paint under the hood, backside of fenders, firewall, etc. You could get away with not painting those parts and just paint the exterior panels so it all matches.

Are you planning on doing the work yourself?

I may be doing some body work myself just prep more or less. It’s completely rust free so no metal replacement needed. Just some dent repair.

Paint is different story I’ve never painted a car and want it to look nice lol so probably farm out final prep and paint.

Use an app to simulate different schemes, paint colors, even wraps .....................numerous available to try out "virtually" any color combo.........most of the databases have loads of vehicle years, models, etc.............

Some (I don't recall the URL off the top of my head, nor did I paste those in favorites on my iPads) will even allow you to upload a picture of your vehicle, then they'll "overlay" different color combos....

Um, don't ever underestimate the importance of that 'side note'! It will pay dividends in the future...
You will be shocked at the difference in paint price whenever you day the word "red". But it is still my first choice.
I had a '89 F-150, and the primer was so bad (flaked off) that Ford paid to have all those trucks sanded to bare metal and repainted - for free.
Since they removed all the epoxy primer/ecoat when they sanded them, and most dealers body shops just shot a cheap primer under the new color coats,
they all started rusting out almost immediately, which Ford could care less about.
I don't remember exactly if the '90 was involved, but make sure your old base/primer coats are still intact before repainting.
