hello i am having great difficulty getting my stock 03 f350 running. It will start and sound good for 10 to 15 minutes and then die. it will not restart for a few hours. The truck has 220000 miles. lots of work has been done in last year and half including: icp,ipr,1 new injector, all injectors resealed, new nipple cups and orings, new stand pipes and supply lines, new oil cooler, egr delete(welded),ficm rebuild, new gpcm, new injector harness, and many others i cant remember at moment. hpop was replaced by a ford dealer before i got truck at 110000 miles i have done the rest of the work. ficm voltage icpv icp(psi) and desired icp as well as ipr% are good right till it dies when ipr jumps to 84.77% and icp drops below 500 psi. When attempting to restart ipr remains 84.77 icp is 200-300. bubble and balloon tests were good. fuel at secondary filter is very low after it dies so cleaned hfcm and replaced fuel pump, new screen on sending unit blue spring upgrade and blew out all lines but still same results. oh yeah also new motorcraft filters help please and thanks in advance. Jeff
Do an air test after the engine gets warmed up (ie after you see the issues with the high-pressure oil). Specifically listen for air gurgling (backflow) at the oil filter when doing the air test (remove the oil filter to listen).
It is best to introduce the 150 psig air at the IPR (purchase an IPR test fitting and install in place of the IPR valve).
After removing the IPR valve, you need to inspect it for contamination, and you need to test it electrically. It is not terribly uncommon for an IPR valve to fail when it gets hot. Check the ICP pigtail for being oil soaked also.
I remove the CCV tube off the driver side as well and listen for gurgling there as well as the oil filter housing with filter out and the oil fill tube cap off. This will help pinpoint which side or HPOP.
Those nipple cup seals can leak if not installed properly, stand pipes and top seals of injectors can all make a hot no start. Have you watched any Diesel Tech Ron videos? They are great resources free on Youtube.
i have watched many of Rons videos He was the best. I have done air test recently but not with valve covers on and not hot. I will give that a try and get back to you guys. To do the test hot means getting ipr out quickly after the truck dies is there a good tick for this. I usually use ipr socket then swivel short extension another swivel and long extension but is still not quick process. I will try doing test today thanks for the help
