I have an '86 F150. 351ci. When I step on the gas, I have acceleration for about a quarter of the pedal. Then a dead zone. Past that it will accelerate normally. Any tips on where to start looking. Timing. Carb. vacuum lines. I also have a code reader. But, damned if I can find where to plug it in. I have looked all over the engine compartment. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have a factory Holley 4bbl carb? Take out the sight plugs on the passenger side of the carb. They are on the side of the fuel bowels, one front, one rear. Shake the fender of the truck a little, and fuel should slosh out of the holes. The fuel level should be right at the bottom of the holes. If it is low, adjust the needle assembly on top of the carb to raise it up.

Improved quite a bit. It took me awhile to figure out that the adjustment was made with what looked like the lock nut, instead of the screw.
