I'm about 1/4 tank down after filling up and adding STP fuel system treatment to my 2002 4.0L Ranger. Last night, we took a short 10 minute trip to the grocery store, went shopping, came back out, and the CEL illuminated after the truck idled for a minute in the parking lot. It remained on on the ride home, and came back on this afternoon when I started her up again.
Thinking the STP and the CEL might be related, I disconnected the positive battery terminal for about an hour and a half, reconnected, and the CEL did not stay illuminated or come back on during a 20 minute test drive, during which the truck performed flawlessly, no hiccups or hesitations noted at all.
Has this happened to anyone else, where a fuel additive set off the CEL? If it happens again, I'm taking her in under warranty just to be on the safe side.
