Hi guys. been working on doors on my 56 and I have decided I should address the loose hinges. Mid Fifty has oversize hinge pins. I looked at the hinges today and I don't see how the pins come out. I tried to knock them out but they don't seem to move . Anyone done this? Thanks Greg
They are so tight that the heavy washer that is spot welded will break loose so try and support the washer when you're wailing on the pin. Once the pin is knocked flush with the washer a drift pin is used and should go a lot easier..
Thanks, John. I got them out today. I found out that 2 of them had been gently adjusted with a sledge hammer sometime. I can actually see the scars on the metal- that broke the pin inside the door part of the hinge. So LOTS of heat and I was able to get them out. Actually the ones that weren't broken came out pretty easy. Looks like they are 5/16 dia. and the holes are all wollard out, so I think I'll order the 11/32 pins from MF.
I used Dorman pins I picked up at our Canadian Tire store but I'm sure Napa likely carries them too.The part # 38438 in the HELP!! packages. Just needed to drill them out slightly
