LAST EDITED ON 13-Mar-01 AT 10:34 PM (EST)[p]The computer in my 1990 F150 read #67 key on engine not running.which means a bad neutral pressure switch.
Can anybody tell me what this switch does ,is it the same as a neutral safety switch ,could it cause my truck to idle erractically thank you.
There's no such thing as a "neutral pressure switch". Ford calls it a Neutral Drive Switch, Park/Neutral switch, or a Manual Lever Position Sensor, and yes, it's the same thing as a neutral safety switch.
I'm curious...where did you see code 67 defined as "neutral pressure switch" failure?
I had the same problem back around Christmas and did the swap myself. My Haynes manual also described this code differently than the Chilton's...but I don't think it was Neutral Pressure, was some other variation. Anyway, you can do this yourself. My truck is a 4.9L with E4OD auto tranny...just go real slow as you may have to drop the steering column, depending on where the switch is in your truck. On mine it is on top of the column, up under the dash. My total cost was about $15, plus the time to do it (1.5 hours). No fancy tools required either...just a lot of patience. Don't have any frame of reference for where/how to replace this switch on a manual tranny.
This is what my book says:
"Light-duty trucks with the E4OD transmission
If the code 67 is received, confirm that the air conditioner was turned off during the KOEO test. If the air conditioner was turned off, refer this code to a qualified transmission specialist or the dealer."
Your right, I read the explanation of #67 wrong(It was for a diffrent vehicle)I've tried so many diffrent things with my truck it's a wonder I can still think.Code 67 was the first code that
went off but my book only has a listing for 67 in the continuous
memory which I thought was the second group of codes given off. I got a 41 for the second group so it read : 67-separator code-41.
can you clear up some of the confusion .Any help would be greatly
appreciated .thanks for your help.
