94-96 have driver airbag, 3rd brake light, newer style radio. I'm pretty sure all '96's had the holes in the front bumper (earlier diesels had them). Also, another way to tell is the ignition where you put the key in. 92-94 was chrome, 95 was black, 96 was shaped different. (Yes I notice every little thing :-) )

holes in the front bumper? What do you mean? I have a big solid ugly as a mother #%$#%@ gray steel bumper with a solid black rubber air dam underneath...now if you dont believe me that my truck doesn't have holes in the bumper, I conviently have pictures
In 1996 not all but the majority of the trucks that I have seen have the front bumper with the holes. Gas and diesel. The earlier diesel trucks used the holes for air intake. The keys were changed in 94' because the earlier models had problems with the key switch. The outer trim would break off and spin free. The bench seat cup holders changed from a set set-up that held one cup and a little change tray to two cups. I believe that was from 92' to 94'. Airbags were in 94'. Jake.
also, 1996's have no rear trim behind the rear wheels. The XLT trim on the interior is black. Mass air and obdII were on all 1996 trucks. The holes in the bumper started in 1993 on Turbo diesel equipped trucks, then on the eddie bauer and finally all XLT 1996 trucks.

Also the cup holder deal. Those came with cloth flight benchs in 1992, two cups were for all 2wd automatics and 4x4 automatics with touch drive. The little tray was for 4x4 with shifter on the floor and manual transmissions.
I have a '95 F-150 XLT and my ignition switch is chrome, not black as mentioned above. Maybe it's because it came with the optional "chrome package"? My truck was not a left over '94 I don't think, as it was manufactured in May 1995
Ahhh for the good old days of my '77 F100 with the key in the dashboard. This '95 not only has the annoying button to release the key (apparent safety feature since turning off the key locks the steering), but also wants to buzz with the door open even when the key is not in it. Just have to wiggle the switch a bit to shut off but is a pain anyway.
Now I'm curious about the key inserts. I guess I figured all 94's were chrome and all 95's were black since that's all I've noticed (both XL and XLT). Why are some black and some chrome? In just '95, or '94 too??
I don't know for a fact, but I'll bet the black ignition switch was for carryover trucks only. I know I've seen several 1995's with the black switch. All 96's had the plastic.
They start building carryover's in mid to late spring.
