So picked up a 2006 Navigator with 100k miles on it, someone owed me money, it runs and drives great, but has some issues with some power features.
1st thing is Power after Key removal, if i remove the key and open my door, the stereo stays on. and the P light on the shifter stays illuminated, all power features work like windows and everything. Im going to replace the ignition switch, but if anyone else has any ideas let me know.
2nd things, The traction control light is always on, never turns off, cant disable it, and on the dash warnings i get 2 warnings, Check AdvanceTrac and Check Park Assist. if i switch it to 4 high seems to go in fine, 4 low it tells me to put it in neutral but can never never seem to go into 4low, and the On demand 4x4 seems to work.
So if anyone has any experience with dealing with these issues any help would be great!
Download ForScan and get a good bluetooth OBD adapter if you don't already have it, and read what actual DTC codes are being stored for the transmission. That should be your first step.
The only codes i'm getting is a P0453 code, PCM (Powertrain Control Module) noticed the EVAP Pressure sensor or FTP is indicating a higher than normal pressure (above 4.5 Volts) in the EVAP system. NOTE: On some vehicles the FTP is a part of the fuel pump assembly in the tank. And as far as im reading there is a Sensor on the fuel rail that needs to be replaced, correct me if im wrong.
Try the ForScan app, or any other high quality code reader that can read chassis codes to see what kind of drive train codes you have stored. You should see some C0XXX codes for the AdvanceTrac system.
Do you hear a big Pffffffft when you take the gas cap off ?
Question, i ordered door jamb for the driver side, but the issue i have though is the truck has power no matter what, i heard these systems have like a 10min standby and then shutoff, but i could leave it and come in it the next day with no key in the ignition and still roll the windows down and listen to the radio. Why i am leaning towards ignitiion switch, i was also going to replace the whole fuse panel, and gem module (if this has a gem module).
There's no GEM module in the 05 and 06 year models.
Don't replace modules ***** nilly, that will quickly get very expensive and will in most cases not solve anything, and bear in mind that most of the modules have to be programmed to the vehicle before they will work. The 05 and 06 uses a VSM module which handles what the old GEM used to do, plus other features like TPMS and auto headlights etc. It also has intermediate communication between a few other modules. The modules on these vehicles aren't known for failing. The fuse box itself does have some failures in the relays, which you can repair if you know how to solder, but other than that they are fairly reliable. There is a delay accessory relay which is supposed to shut off accessories after X number of minutes or when you open the door. It may be that this relay is stuck on. If you suspect the ignition switch, disconnecting the plug to the ignition switch should verify this by having accessories turn off as if you removed the key.
Thank you, thats what i was beginning to assume as i kept on researching this power issue. How can i diagnose if the relay is bad? or just replace it? the relay is in the fuse panel correct? are these known to fail?
My sunroof is leaking and getting water on the passenger floor, im suspecting maybe water got to the fuse panel at one point causing a short somewhere.
'06 doesn't have the junction box fuel pump relay problem since they (Ford) moved to a remote fuel control module on the frame back at the left rear tire area. It has it's own corrosion problem, and there are aftermarket fixes for that ( insulated mount bushings...). Check out that control module for oxidation and corrosion. If it's the original module I can almost guarantee you to have corrosion issues. For your sunroof. Are you seeing actual water tracks from the sunroof to the side pillar area ? Because the Expy's/Navi's/ F150s have a flow back problem with the AC condensation drain, and that ends up soaking the passenger side carpet and padding. Check the sunroof drain tubes that they are clear and water flows through them, ( blow them out with compressed air...). But don't be surprised if you find the passenger carpet soaked issue to be the AC drain.
If the fuse panel got wet, that will cause all kinds of electrical gremlins. But water on the floor doesn't necessarily mean the fuse box was wet. Try to find the source, could also be AC as Hamfisted mentioned. I've had to open my sunroof drains twice, used compressed air and a long tube I slid way down into them and used reduced pressure to make sure I didn't blow them off the hose connectors behind the trim panels.
The accessory delay relay should be relay number C2075, which is the middle of the top row. Mind that this is from a 05 manual, but I suspect it's the same in the 06. You can swap it with relay C2242 which is the one next to it on the right, top row. That's the high beam relay, so if the relay itself is stuck on, then the high beams would come on and stay on. If the relay itself is fine, then you can check for 12V between pins 85 and 86 on the accessory delay relay socket. If key is out of ignition and doors are open, there should be no voltage on pins 86 and 85 for this relay.
Another thing, if the relay is good and you find voltage on pins 85 and 86 for the accessory delay relay, you can try to pull fuse F1.102 (30A large square fuse), which is the fuse feeding the ignition switch. If that fixes the issue, then I'd agree the ignition switch is suspect.

So I pulled the accessory relay and everything but the P shift indicator turned off. Then I swapped the fuse and everything seems to work and the power to everything is off after 10 min but the P shift indicator. The power seats still work so not sure if that is normal.
I'm trying to figure out were the ignition switch is on this thing and my Haynes manual is showing something that isn't there.
It's normal that the power seats still work. You're saying the light in the floor shifter is on? That is fed by the same circuit that powers cluster and panel illumination, coming from the main light switch via the instrument cluster. It shouldn't be possible to turn on the light in the floor shifter alone, without illuminating the rest of the dashboard and the instrument cluster.

The P on the shifter column stays illuminated. It's a red light the rest of the shifter indicators is a white light they only illuminate when I turn the lights on with the switch. Witch I can do when the car is off and key removed but I think that is normal
Doesn't seem like the manual has a different red light in there which is wired separately. I haven't seen a Navigator in person, so I only have the wiring diagrams to work from, but the shifter has a block named "microprocessor" in the diagram, and a fuse (F1.27, 5A) which is hot in START or RUN, could try to pull that and see if the light goes out when the ignition is OFF. If it does, it means it's still getting power when ignition is off, which it shouldn't.

Yes it still has power and light still stays on, even if I open the doors and unplug the door jamb switches there still have power and the radio stays on. I'm testing my relay for the accessory delay right now
