I need to replace my radiator.I'm looking for any recommendations. Should I go aluminum? Is the below Champion Cooling Systems All-Aluminum Radiator 1968-1979 Ford a good one?
I have to admit I've heard good things about them. I have a very similar unit in my '64. Bolted right up. What does Jegs want for shipping on that? Check FleaBay, on price, I bought one for exactly the same price as I recall with free shipping. The only thing I really didn't care for was the radiator cap itself, seemed pretty cheap. The welds actually looked OK, they are stout heavy radiators and no glue anywhere. It's recommended to use a 50/50 solution of glycol (good ole green stuff) coolant and water, this is the additive package and the ratio that provides the advertised quantity of corrosion inhibitors. Aluminum is a lot different than brass in that regard. Even if it doesn't freeze where you live, the radiator and cooling system needs a full dose of corrosion protection.
Make sure your core is same height. My truck has the 24" height core. It looks like a solid radiator. You could probably get an aluminum radiator with plastic tanks off rockauto for a little cheaper if cash is tight but you get what you pay for.
Do you have a fan shroud? The shroud gets overlooked a lot when people have cooling problems.
