Is there much difference in HP/TQ of the 460 from 1986 compared to 1993? Obviously the newer motor is FI but as far as performance I'm just curious as to which motor is better? Looking at buying either a: 1986 F-250 or a 1993 F-250 and both have the 460 motor... The '93 is stock with a modified exhaust. The '86 has headers, aftermarket intake and carb (750 Holley) I believe... In love with the Bullnose so more than likely going with the '86..
I am not up on the 460's much. But if you are going to stay with a carb, get the earlier engine. A carbed intake will not fit the fuel injection heads.
Have an 87 F250 SC 460 carb. C-6 4.10 LS rear and a 95 F250 SC EFI 460 E4OD 4.10 LS rear. The 95 seemed to have better towing power and better gas mileage than than the 87 (the over drive helped)

Would you happen to know why that is? The reason I ask is I have a 85 f250 that has a 70 460 with d0ve-c heads that I was thinking about putting the later efi on but I have heard before that the intake mounted different however my parts guy says the base intake gaskets are the same and it's the throttle body versus carburetor gasket that makes them a different part number. Just curious if you knew the difference. As for the op, I have had both carbureted and efi 460 engines and I like them both, however today's gasoline does not do well with carburetors to the point I have either sold or converted the carbureted engines I still have. On the other side of the coin the eec-iv efi sucks pretty bad and is hard to diagnose when problems arise, don't get me wrong when it's good it's real good but when it breaks be prepared to pull some hair out in the process. If you are able, scout around and find a 96 or 97 with obd 2 they were probably the best the 460 ever was. Just my 2 cents
I don't know the details, just that the heads have to be carbed heads if you want to run a carbed intake. Someone on here the other day had a link to a adapter some company made that allowed you to bolt a carb on top of a EFI intake on a 460. Never tried it, don't have any feedback on it. I am wary though, of bolting a carb way up high on a intake with no heat going to it from the engine.
