Hello, my 84 f150 4.9l wont go into gear. Any ideas what could cause this? It will start up with the clutch and that's it. I can feel it vibrating when I shift into gears 3 and 4 in park but that's it
Regardless, the first step here would be to inspect the clutch linkage, starting at the pad on the pedal and ending where the fork goes into the bell. Pay attention to where your master attaches to the firewall. These are known to crack. Rust makes it worse.
IF that is all square and the clutch fork is moving properly, lift the carpet and remove the transmission tunnel cover. If you have the low first gear transmission, you can remove the top cover and inspect the shift rails, shifter engagement etc.
