I saw that one too. After some discussion with the Mrs., we decided to go with an 11 Expedition EL, 120K miles, paid $9,950 after some haggling. The Excursion was nice but just too much truck for our needs and budget.
THIS!!!
Now comes the big question..how long would it take you to spend that $37k?
I bought my Ex for $9400. In the year since, I've put about $10k in it, including wheels, tires, lift, Android head unit, and a ton of preventive maintence stuff.
I could easily do another $10k right now with transmission cooler, valve body, HPOP, injectors, finishing the lift with airbags in back, and upgraded front and rear bumpers (with spare tire carrier in back).
With the $17k left over, I could whittle that down quickly with a solar power system, upgraded alternator, batwing awning and roof rack, winch, onboard air system, insulation and window tinting, door seals all around, a shallow locking cargo tray, new seatcovers in front, new steering gear, power running boards and upgraded headlights/trail lighting. If there's *too much* left over, a front coil suspension and/or a repaint should knock the balance down to less than what the 43.516 gallons of fuel cost me today.
That leaves little in the bank for a complete HD transmission upgrade, or an engine rebuild that will have to be done at some point...
I could spend it all today, but it would probably take me a year to install all that stuff. It would be pretty slick when it was done, though.

Yep, that snaps one back to the reality of it. I paid 3500 for mine, and with a new engine plus ancillaries , paint, suspension, and sound system heck I would still have another 35K to spend. Maybe the new Bronco or refurbish my 78'?
Ok, now I feel bad for spending $38k in 2000 (+some interest). Oh well, 19 yrs and still chugging along.
No, no ,no. You have to convert those 2000 dollars into 2019 dollars. A new Expi El with 4wd is close to 100k. A new Navigator is 100k. I buzzed pass a few of on the way to D.C. last month. A couple driving a new Lincoln Navi chased me into Durango Co. surprised at the size of the Ex.
