Electric Fan - HP or MPG

Hi all, I have heard a lot about installing electric cooling fans to gain up to 12HP. My 1990 F250 4x4 351 E4OD has been getting 11.7 mpg. I have already installed new plugs, plug wires, cap & rotor. I am also thinking about getting the K&N air filter kit. The fan I have found is a twin 12" electric and costs $272.00 This 2500CFM fan comes complete with self-resetting circuit breakers and full function control module. Is this worth installing the electric fan, or is this a myth. Thanks for any help on this....

You arent going to gain 12 hp by adding an electric fan . It will take more than a fan to gain that much Hp . Is the clutch fan giving you problems , overheating etc ?

On the subject of horsepower, you have to watch the "up to xxx gain" quotes everyone gives you. That means it could get up to that much, but probably won't unless you do alot more first.

Try adding a set of pulleys! That's seems to be the quickest bang for the buck.

1988 F-150, SWB, 5.0 EFI (formerly 4.9 EFI), M5OD 5 speed, 3.08 gears, Summit shorty truck headers, Custom built Flowmaster exhaust system. Force 4 LP6000 lightbar, Federal signal PA-300 100 watt siren, Icom IC-V100 50 watt mobile radio.

1965 F-100 (just purchased 1/18/01), SWB, 390, C-6 auto. Dual exhaust, Not much else to do to it.

The clutch fan is a little stiff to turn but still works. The truck has 129,600 and never overheats. But I would really like to get more HP and MPG. I have thought about the pulleys. Thanks!

There is a long list of things you can do to beef up the Hp , As far as the Mpg goes there really isnt a lot you can do ....Big truck , little mileage . I know its more $$$ lately to fill her up , But you cant haul or tow the same amount on a smaller truck that gets better mileage .

Something here that people always miss and the electric fan manufacturers don't want to advertise: Those dual electric fans have a large amperage current draw, which means the alternator is working harder, same for engine, decreased gas mileage.

What about FLEX-FANS ? Would one of those help out MPG?
I have a 4.9L so cooling isn't that bad.

Why bother? The OEM clutch fan works just fine, unless that vicous drive clutch has leaked all the goo out...then the fan doesn't work, and you get to buy a new clutch, for a whole lot less than an aftermarket flex-fan.
